Cher has taken legal action to establish conservatorship over her son Elijah, expressing concerns about his ability to make responsible financial decisions. In documents filed on Wednesday, the singer contends that her 47-year-old son is significantly impaired in managing his financial resources due to severe mental health and substance abuse issues.
Elijah, entitled to regular trust payouts established by his late father, Gregg Allman, is at the center of Cher’s worries. She fears the funds might be directed toward substance abuse rather than covering essential living expenses.
At 77, Cher argues that, as Elijah’s mother, she is the most suitable candidate to serve as conservator. She emphasizes her nomination by two of Elijah’s siblings for the role. Cher also criticizes Elijah’s estranged wife, Marieangela King, accusing her of obstructing Elijah’s pursuit of necessary mental health and substance abuse assistance.
Notably, Marieangela previously accused Cher of kidnapping Elijah to compel him into rehab, an allegation Cher has vehemently denied. The court has scheduled a hearing on March 6, 2024, to determine whether Cher will be appointed conservator of Elijah’s estate.
